Installer vs Portable

Choose based on deployment—not on feature availability.

The IEC 61850 application scope is the same. The difference is how Windows stores, launches, removes and updates the package.

Code-signing status

Not Authenticode-signed

The current public Windows installer and portable EXE do not carry a commercial Authenticode publisher signature. Verify the published SHA-256 value before use. SmartScreen warnings are therefore possible and are not hidden from users.

Status: unsigned
Known limitations

Review the current boundaries.

  • Physical relay validation remains necessary for vendor-specific values, report behavior and field network conditions that cannot be reproduced by CI.
  • Adding an SCL source does not automatically start or switch the active FAT evidence session; the operator selects and starts each IED explicitly.
  • Windows x64 is the only packaged desktop platform in this stable release.
  • The public binaries are not Authenticode code-signed; Windows SmartScreen may show an unrecognized-publisher warning.
  • Raw-Ethernet GOOSE and Sampled Values workflows require an administrator-installed and approved Npcap driver, suitable capture permission and visibility of the relevant multicast traffic.
Software supply chain

Distinguish current package evidence from future release attestations.

The current 1.6.33 Download Center proves file identity through SHA-256, release metadata and CI publication evidence. It does not claim an SBOM or GitHub provenance attestation unless those assets are visible on the tagged GitHub Release.

Current stable evidence

Installer, portable single EXE, publish date, file size, SHA-256, SPDX SBOM, provenance and honest Authenticode status.

Current release workflow

The stable Windows release generates an SPDX SBOM and GitHub artifact attestations during the same Windows release job.

Verification boundary

Never infer provenance for an older release from a newer workflow. Verify the exact tag and attached assets.

First-run support

Do not stop at the binary.

Follow the read-first onboarding path, review common objections and inspect service-level field evidence before attempting active workflows.

Issue reporting

Report package or runtime problems with evidence.

Include version 1.6.33, package type, Windows version, exact error, screenshot or log, and whether the published checksum matched.
